Getting the House Ready
Our team returned to Haiti Wednesday (February 17), after a few days of rest back in the States with family and friends. Friday, 2/19, we met with some of the point people in charge here at Mission of Hope and were very encouraged. Please pray for God’s continued blessing over these key relationships as we want to be united in Christ's work in all we do. From this meeting we received confirmation that the current school building on the mission campus will serve as temporary housing for all the children we receive until construction of the new “Hope Village” orphanage house is completed. This building has been unoccupied until the government permits classes to begin again.
Our Haitian government liaison, assured us that beginning this week, February 22nd, we should start receiving orphaned, amputated children at Mission Of Hope! With that news, Sarah has been on a "hunt" the past few days for bed sheets, pillows, towels, shampoo & conditioner, etc. as we prepare for the arrival of these children. We are preparing space for 24 children and 6 Haitian house "mommies' at this time. These are only temporary arrangements until the orphanage house is complete. Please be praying for these first children. Pray for God's grace and mercy on each one of them, and upon us, as we begin this big God-size adventure!
On Sunday, February 21, Bill spoke at the church of our interpreter, Wilfrid, in Carrefour. It was a group of three different churches gathered together in the streets (because all their buildings were destroyed). Tents and tarps provided the “roof” over this amazing expression of Christ’s Body united in the worship of our Saviour. The message was on God's redemptive work throughout history. God has big plans for the people of Haiti to join in that work as they reach out right now to their neighbors in need, and in days and months to come they reach out to the very ends of the earth. The Haitians response to this powerful message was very encouraging.
Later this week, Bill will be meeting with Dan Kirkely from Hope for the Hungry to discuss a home building project for the countless homeless in Haiti. Please pray for God's direction, for His wisdom and for favor in all aspects of this vital project.
Please continue to lift up the Haitian people. There was a 4.7 aftershock quake about 4:30 a.m. this morning that woke some of us up. It had rained last night so many people had returned to their collapsed homes to find whatever shelter they could. The instability of these structurally damaged homes is very dangerous so please pray for God's mercy and protection on everyone here.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement as we continue to join God in what He is already doing. We know that God is good and His love endures forever.
Blessings,
The Haiti Field Team
